The records consist of legal files, media coverage, and protest letters and petitions. Calero was detained by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in December 2002 as he was returning from a reporting assignment in Mexico. Deportation proceedings were initiated and Calero, in association with the Political Rights Defense Fund, responded with a public campaign to fight the charges leveled against him.
